Somerset will lock horns with Nottinghamshire in the third quarter-final match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on July 7. Somerset have finished the league stage at the top of the table in the South Group with 12 wins out of 14 matches. On the other hand, Nottinghamshire had won eight out of their 14 matches and finished the league stage in the fourth position.
Somerset had squared off against Kent in their last match, where Kent won the toss and elected to field. Being put to bat, Somerset made the most of it. Though only captain Will Smeed scored a fifty, it was a complete batting performance from the team. They maintained a regular run rate throughout the innings and were able to post a massive total of 221 runs on the board. Kent started with a good run rate but lost three wickets within the powerplay, which held them back a little. Some excellent bowling towards the end pulled the game back for Somerset as Kent fell short of the target by 15 runs.
Nottinghamshire had squared off against Leicestershire in their last match, where Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat. They started well and were scoring at a good rate but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Wicketkeeper Tom Moores was the leading scorer of the innings, playing a knock of 68 runs and helping his team reach a total of 168 runs. Leicestershire lost their first wicket on the very first ball, but Wiaan Mulder held the fort from one end, scoring 83 runs off 50 balls. He fell short of partners by the end, and in a close encounter, Nottinghamshire won the match by four runs.
