Southern Rocks will lock horns with Matabeleland Tuskers in the Playoff Match for 3rd place in the Zimbabwe T20 at the Old Hararians in Harare on February 26. Southern Rocks have won three matches from the five they played and finished in third place in the points table. Matabeleland Tuskers, on the other hand, have a similar record but, due to a lower net run rate, finished in fourth position in the standings.
Southern Rocks squared off against Mashonaland Eagles in their last match, where the Eagles won the toss and chose to field. Rocks started off in an excellent manner, with both their openers scoring their respective half-centuries. They could not finish so strong and ended up with a strong total of 173 for the loss of eight wickets. The Eagles chased down the target with 26 balls to spare and easily won the match by seven wickets.
Tuskers faced Mountaineers in their last encounter, where Mountaineers won the toss, and they elected to field. It was a difficult pitch to bat on, and every batter struggled with the timing. Tuskers’ opener, Tanunurwa Makoni, batted rather slowly but made a brilliant fifty, and Tuskers could post a total of 140 at the expense of six wickets. Looking at the score, it was expected that it would be a close encounter, but it instead turned out to be one-sided. Mountaineers never really could get going with the chase and lost wickets regularly. They were bundled for a score of 101 and could not bat a full 20 overs. Tuskers won the match by 39 runs.
