Preview
Switzerland will lock horns with Luxembourg in the first match of the ECI Switzerland 2023 at the Stadium Grundenmoos in St Gallen on August 12. This is going to be the first match for both the teams as well as the first match of the tournament, and so they would like to win this match and gain early momentum in the tournament.
Switzerland squared off against Malta in their last encounter, where Malta won the toss and elected to bat. Choosing to bat did not go much in their favor, as they lost a wicket early but had decent partnerships to cover up for that later. There was no single high scorer but a complete team effort that helped them post 164 runs on the board. In their chase, Switzerland made an explosive start, and Arjun Vinod played a brilliant knock of 67 runs, so Switzerland could chase down the total easily with 11 balls to spare. They won the match by six wickets.
Luxembourg had played against Romania in their last match, where Romania had won the toss and elected to bowl. Luxembourg did not start well, but the batters to follow did score some useful runs. Timothy Barker was the top scorer from the innings with his knock of 66 and helped his team score 149 runs. Romania was not too great with their start as well, but Vasu Saini, who came to bat at three, did not lose focus until he had won his team the game. Romania won the match easily by seven wickets with 21 balls to spare, and Vasu Saini was adjudged Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 91.
