Preview
United Arab Emirates (UAE) will lock horns with West Indies in the 1st ODI match of the West Indies tour of the UAE 2023 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on June 5. UAE have won four matches from their last five matches played in this format and seems to be in good form. West Indies, on the other hand, does not seem to be in too good of a form recently, as they have been able to win just one of their last five matches.
UAE last played an ODI match against Nepal in the final match of the ACC Premier Cup, where Nepal won the toss and they chose to field. It was a match UAE would like to forget and move on as soon as possible. After performing well in the entire tournament, their batting got completely derailed in the finals, where Asif Khan made the highest score of 46 runs. Other than him, no one could even score 15 runs, and so the team was bowled out for a mere score of 117 runs. Nepal did not start too well either, losing three wickets just at the score of 22 runs. But the fourth wicket partnership was match-winning, and they remained unbeaten. Nepal won the match by seven wickets.
West Indies squared off against South Africa in their last encounter, where South Africa won the toss and elected to field. West Indies had a good start, further made better by a fantastic second-wicket partnership. Brandon King scored a fabulous fifty and was also helped by some other batters who got starts. They could post a decent total of 260 runs on the scoreboard. South Africa did not start well but got better as the innings progressed. Heinrich Klaasen was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant unbeaten century. South Africa won the match by four wickets with over 20 overs to spare.
