Preview

The second ODI match of the West Indies tour of the United Arab Emirates will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on June 6, 2023. Recently, UAE have played a considerable amount of ODIs and saw success in the qualifier tournaments. This enabled them to secure a spot in the first round of Zimbabwe-hosted ICC World Cup Qualifiers. Before the ICC World Cup Qualifiers, this series against the West Indies will provide valuable preparation. The host UAE opted to bat in the first ODI match, but they lost their openers very early. Vriitya Aravind, who's naturally good in ODIs but takes some time to repair the innings, scored 40 runs off 70 balls where the surface provided an uneven bounce in humid conditions. At one stage, UAE were 100 for 2, then experienced a collapse of four wickets for 29 runs. After the middle order collapsed, the UAE put 202 on the board thanks to a courageous fifty from newcomer Ali Naseer.

West Indies, on the other hand, are beginning a new era under a new coach and captain as they head into the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. The World Cup assignment is handed over to former West Indies World Cup winning captain Daren Sammy. West Indies pacers provided two early breakthroughs, which made UAE stick to a circle to not lose too many wickets. Six bowlers were used, and all six responded well. Keemo Paul was the standout performer, who provided the early wicket and cleaned up the dangerous debutant Ali Naseer at the end to restrict UAE to a low score. He ended with 3 wickets in 7 overs. Coming to their batting department, West Indies lost one of their openers Johnson Charles in the 8th over for 24 runs. King scored his first ODI hundred off 107 deliveries, and he also put together a key 91-run partnership with Shamarh Brooks for the second wicket to win the game and thrash UAE. This comfortable win will bring a lot of confidence to this West Indies team. The victory gives the West Indies confidence as they get ready for the ODI World Cup qualification that will take place in Zimbabwe later this month.
