Preview

Warwickshire will lock horns with Lancashire in a league match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham on May 29. Warwickshire have played two matches where they have won both and are third in the rankings of North Group. Lancashire, on the other hand, have played and won all three of their matches so far and are sitting at the top of the table.

Warwickshire squared off against Leicestershire in their last encounter where Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bat. Choosing to bat they tried to make the most of it and were quite successful in doing so. They had a good opening partnership of 49 runs in just five overs. They lost a couple of more wickets regularly but runs were scored decently as well. At the end of the first innings, they posted a total of 166 runs at the loss of seven wickets. Warwickshire, on the other hand, did not start too well as they had lost two wickets within three overs. But a solid third wicket partnership between Sam Hain and Glenn Maxwell, did not just pull them back on track but put them in driving position as well. Warwickshire won the match by five wickets with more than 15 balls to spare.
Lancashire had played against Nottinghamshire in their last match where the toss was won by Lancashire and they chose to bat. Batting on a fresh track, Lancashire batters capitalised it well and made good use of the powerplay. Daryl Mitchell came out to bat at four and turned the tides around completely, after two wickets. He played a brilliant innings of 85 runs off just 41 balls which helped Lancashire post a huge target of 209 runs. Nottinghamshire did not start at all the way they would have liked to, as they lost both their openers on their combined total of two runs. Their middle order did support them and pulled them back in the game but too many balls were spent in the recovery mode, the result of which was, they fell short of 22 runs and Lancashire won the match.
