Preview

Wellington Firebirds (WF) will be facing Canterbury Kings (CTB) in the sixth match of the Plunket Shield 2022 tournament at Basin Reserve in Wellington on Wednesday. Wellington Firebirds finished the last edition in the sixth position and started this season with a narrow one-wicket win over Northern Districts in the last match.

Ian McPeake took four wickets in the first innings to bowl out the Districts on just 225 runs and then captain Tom Blundell and Rachin Ravindra scored centuries to help the Firebirds score 370 runs. McPeake took five more wickets in the third innings but the Northern side managed to score 394 runs. But Blundell's 68-run knock was enough for the Firebirds to secure a narrow one-wicket win.

Canterbury, runners-up last season, started this edition with a draw against Central Districts. Star pacer Matt Henry took four wickets to bowl out the Central on just 302 runs in the first innings and star batter Tom Latham smashed 167 runs to guide the Kings to a huge total of 416 runs in the second innings. Henry took three more wickets but Central Districts survived the innings and played out for a draw. Canterbury have won all of their last five domestic first-class games against Wellington Firebirds and are favorites to win this fixture as well.
