Preview

Hosts Zimbabwe (ZIM) are all set to lock horns with Afghanistan (AFG) in the second and final Test match, slated to take place at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, on Thursday, January 2. The series-opening game of the two-match Test series between these two powerhouses ended with a draw. In this game, the two sides made record-breaking 1,428 runs. Notably, this marked the highest combined team totals ever scored in a red-ball game in Zimbabwe.

Speaking about the first game, the Chevrons aka the hosts opted to bat first after winning the toss, and they took full advantage of a flat deck. The opening batter set the tone of the game with debutant Ben Curran hammering his maiden Test half-century. Sean Williams and Craig Ervine built a strong 163-run stand. However, it was star all-rounder William's fiery knock that stole the limelight. The host's innings was further bolstered by Brian Bennet, who made an unbeaten 110 to help Zimbabwe post 586 runs.

In reply to that, the visitors lost Sediqullah Atal for just three runs. However, a formidable stand unfolded between Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi as the duo put together a record-breaking 364-run stand, the largest in Afghanistan's Test history. Rahmat Shah hammered 242 runs from 474 balls while skipper Shahidi struck 246 off 474 balls to help the side post 699 runs. The hosts later made 142/4 on Day 5 before the game ended as a draw.
