Preview
Zimbabwe will host the Netherlands in the third ODI of the ongoing three-match series on Saturday (March 25) at the Harare Sports Club. The Netherlands stunned Zimbabwe in the first game as they chased down the target of 250 runs on the penultimate delivery. Teja Nidamanuru’s 110 runs off 96 deliveries helped the Netherlands bounce back after half the team was back in the pavilion for just 64 runs.
In the second ODI, the top order was in fine form, and Zimbabwe posted a total of 271 runs while batting first. Sean Williams, who missed the first game, scored 77 runs off 73 deliveries and was the highest scorer for the team. Clive Mandane made a half-century again and added 104 runs for the sixth wicket along with Williams. Shariz Ahmed picked a fifer for the Netherlands and was the pick of the bowlers.
The Netherlands lost their first wicket in the 8th over. After which, Max O’Dowd and Tom Cooper played key roles for the team. The Zimbabwean bowlers struggled against these two as they played shots all over the park. The second breakthrough came for Zimbabwe in the 33rd over as Cooper was run out for 74 runs. This could have opened the floodgates, but O’Dowd and Colin Ackermann ensured the momentum was not lost. The ultimate shift came in the 44th over bowled by Wessly Madhevere. He became only the third Zimbabwean bowler to pick a hat-trick in ODIs. The magician named Sikandar Raza bowled the 49th over and dismissed the Dutch skipper, Scott Edwards, for 36 runs. The Netherlands required 19 runs from the last over to earn an unassailable lead. Ryan Klein and Fred Klaassen gathered 15 runs off the first five deliveries, and the Netherlands were just one hit away from a famous victory. Klaassen hit a full-toss towards the extra cover, but the batters could gather only two runs, and Zimbabwe won the match on the final delivery by one run. This was only the second time Zimbabwe won an ODI by the smallest margin.
