Preview
Zimbabwe will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the 4th match of the Super Sixes round of the ICC World Cup Qualifier 2023 at the Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo on July 2. Zimbabwe had won three of their three matches and are at the second position. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have a similar record but due to better net run-rate are at the top of the table.
Zimbabwe had played against Oman in their last match where Oman won the toss and elected to field. Zimbabwe had a decent start but had lost both their openers in quick succession. It was their captain who rose to the occasion and played a brilliant knock of 142 runs. He was helped by some useful knocks from Raza and Jongwe which provided them a good finish and they gave Oman a target of 333 runs. Although Oman lost their first wicket easily, they had some good second and third wicket partnership where Kashyap Prajapati scored a fantastic century but his knock went in vain as Oman fell short of 14 runs in the end.
Sri Lanka had squared off against Netherlands in their last match where Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. Choosing to bat did not go their way as they had lost five wickets just at the score of 67 runs. de Silva scored some important 93 runs in the middle overs which helped Sri Lanka reach a decent total of 213 runs. Netherlands did not have a good start as well but had a brilliant partnership of 77 runs for the third wicket. After this partnership was broken, it was their captain who kept the hopes high with his knock of 67 runs but wickets kept falling from the other end which led them to being bowled out for 192. Sri Lanka won the crucial match by 21 runs.
