‘Lots of love to the family’ – Virat Kohli wishes RCB mate AB de Villiers on 36th birthday
De Villiers is in contention for a spot in the South Africa squad for the T20 World Cup.
AB de Villiers, the former South Africa cricketer, has turned 36 years old on Monday, February 17. It’s nearly been two years since he hung his boots from international cricket, but that hasn’t affected his fandom by any stretch of the imaginations. The veteran still holds the record for the fastest ODI century off 30 balls against the West Indies at the iconic Wanderers in Johannesburg.
The Pretoria-born is mostly a T20 freelancer and has shone in every other tournament he played. In the last 12 months or so, De Villiers made his debut in the PSL, BPL as well as the BBL. He is now set for his stint in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he will be turning out for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). There he will be playing under Virat Kohli’s leadership.
In the meantime, on the auspicious occasion, Virat didn’t miss out on wishing ABD. The duo shares a healthy camaraderie and the RCB skipper sent positive vibes to his teammate in the IPL. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Happy bday brother. Wish you all the happiness and good health and lots of love to the family. See you soon,”
Here is Virat’s tweet
Virat and De Villiers are likely to be seen together during the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s opening match in IPL 2020 against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The pair has shared quite a few massive partnerships for the Challengers but the franchise is yet to get their hands on the IPL trophy in the 12-year history of the T20 tournament.
De Villiers likely to return for the Proteas
In the meantime, reports of De Villiers making his national comeback is also doing the rounds for quite some time. Recently, Mark Boucher, the South Africa coach said that ABD will be in contention for a spot in the T20 World Cup squad if he makes himself available for selection.
Virat, on the other hand, is set to lead India in the two-match Test series against New Zealand, starting February 21 with the first Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. In the tour, India started with a 5-0 whitewash in the T20Is, but the Kiwis hit back with a 3-0 clean sweep in the ODIs.
