LPL 2024: Dambulla franchise gets a new owner
After much deliberation and debate, the Lanka Premier League is back with its third installment, set to commence on December 6. The five-team tournament was scheduled to take place in August earlier this year but was postponed to a later date due to the ongoing political and financial crisis in Sri Lanka.
The first two editions of the tournament were a massive success among the fans in the country, and the organizers are hoping that the third installment will go on similar lines, providing fans with much-needed relief after a troublesome year. According to the LPL schedule, the fans will get to witness a replay of last year's final between Jaffna Kings and Galle Gladiators.
A total of three venues will host the upcoming edition of the tournament which will see five teams tussle for the ultimate prize. The tournament will follow the double round-robin format during the group stages, with the final set to be played on the 23 of December in Colombo. Two-time LPL champions Jaffna Kings have dominated the tournament and even this time around they will be eager to top the LPL points table.
However, Thishara Parera's Kings will face a stern challenge from the other participant, especially their matchday 1 opponents Galle Gladiators. The Gladiators have come close to winning the tournament on two consecutive occasions only to be denied by an indomitable Jaffna Kings both times.
