The two-day event of the IPL mega auction saw a successful end on February 13 in Bangalore as teams walked away with their choice of players. It was interesting for two new franchises Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans to build the squad to mark a fresh start. Lucknow had roped in KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi ahead of the mega auction.
While LSG roped in KL as their captaincy option for a whopping INR 17 crore, all-rounder Stoinis was fetched in at INR 9.25 crore. On the other hand, young leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi’s services were acquired by the new franchise at INR four crore. Day one of the auction saw the Lucknow team doing very well with team-making under the strategies of Gautam Gambhir.
Lucknow Super Giants buy Avesh Khan at INR 10 crore
They went on to rope Quinton de Kock as KL Rahul’s partner at the top. De Kock, who was released by Mumbai ahead of the mega auction, got picked by LSG at INR 6.75 crore. Talking in terms of their most expensive buys after KL, they bagged the services of ace pacer Avesh Khan for INR 10 crore and went on to rope in Jason Holder for INR 8.75 crore.
Earlier on day one, LSG also got in all-rounder Krunal Pandya, who was released by Mumbai Indians. And, one thing that attracted the attention of all the fans was the signing of Deepak Hooda. It will be interesting for fans to see Hooda and Pandya play under one roof after their personal issues last year.
It will be interesting to see when the Lucknow side will get to play some games at their home venue. IPL 2022 is reportedly expected to take place in Maharashtra due to COVID-19 concerns.
