'Luke Ronchi loves it over there' - Ross Taylor opens up on playing in future editions of PSL

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) might not be at par with the Indian Premier League (IPL) in financial terms. However, the PSL has evolved as one of the premier T20 leagues across the globe, with many players willing to ply their trade in the tournament.

The fifth season of the PSL served as a breath of fresh air for Pakistan Cricket as the tournament was hosted in Pakistan for the first time. Many players have expressed their willingness to participate in the future PSL editions and the tournament is touted to reach new heights with every passing year.

New Zealand international Ross Taylor also expressed interest in participating in the future editions of the PSL. Right-handed Taylor is hailed as one of the greatest batsmen New Zealand has produced and is the leading run-scorer for the Kiwis in both Test Cricket as well as in ODIs.

“If they want me. I’m getting a bit old no,” said Taylor. “But never say never and I’ve talked to fellow Kiwi players who have gone there – Luke Ronchi loves it over there and is well-received by the locals. Hopefully, I’ve got a few more years left in me when it comes to international cricket but if I’m still good enough and [the] teams still want me then never say never,” he added.

Apart from Luke Ronchi, many other New Zealand internationals like Brendon McCullum, Mitchell McClenaghan, and Colin Munro have braced the field in the PSL. Taylor, who has vast international under his belt, even talked about his experience while playing against the Men in Green. 36-year-old Taylor also rated his hundred against Pakistan in Dubai, way back in 2014, as one of his best tons.

“I always enjoy playing against Pakistan. You always know you’re in for a hard battle. I would have liked to score a few more runs in Birmingham last year.

Maybe I used all my luck up in Pallekele [in 2011 where he scored a whirlwind, match-winning knock of 131] because Shaheen Afridi obviously bowled a very good ball and Sarfaraz took a great catch [to dismiss me],” said the Kiwi stalwart.

“It’s an enjoyable experience playing against them either in New Zealand or overseas and [unfortunately] just the way cricket works, I’ve actually never been to Pakistan. The hundred against them in Dubai would definitely be out there among my best centuries,” he added.
