Mahela Jayawardena not too eager to join the Indian Team as coach
Mahela only focussing on Mumbai and Khulna
Sri Lankan Cricket maestro, Mahela Jayawardena took to Twitter to disclose that he is flattered about him being linked for the post of the currently vacant Head Coach position of the Indian Cricket Team. But as of now, he has clarified that he is not too interested to join any team on a full-time basis.
After the retirement of the Sri Lankan legend, along with Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela has been involved with various teams as a coach. He was the coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians this season. Mumbai Indians went on to win the title this season and were the most dominant side this year under the mentorship of the Sri Lankan great.
He also had a short stint with the English cricket team as the batting consultant and is also involved in the Bangladesh Premier League franchise Khulna Titans. According to recent reports, Mahela applied for the currently vacant job of the head coach along with Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody.
The speculations came in the aftermath of Anil Kumble resigning from the post of the Head Coach even after being re-elected as the head coach by the CAC, comprising of VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, and Sachin Tendulkar. The legendary leg-spinner grabbed all the limelight with his ‘untenable’ remark in his resignation which he tweeted post-India’s defeat at the hands of Pakistan in the Champions Trophy finals.
Mahela dismisses any links with Indian cricket Team
However, Mahela Jayawardena was quick to deny all the reports of him being involved with Indian Cricket Team as he tweeted by saying,”Flattered by speculation linking me to India coaching job but I am not looking at full-time positions right now. I am completely focused on current commitments with MI and Khulna.” It would be interesting to see who is next in the long line for the coveted position in the Indian cricket team.
