Suryakumar Yadav has once again proved that hard work always pays off by scoring a stunning fifty in his debut innings in international cricket on Thursday (March 18). The right-handed batsman toiled hard for more than a decade in domestic cricket, scored heavily without too many rewards. But Suryakumar kept working hard and proved his class on every possible opportunity before being finally rewarded with a maiden India call-up for the ongoing T20 series against England.
His international career got off to a dramatic start as he did not get a chance to bat on his debut. Just a couple of days later, he was surprisingly dropped from the playing eleven in order to make way for incumbent opener Rohit Sharma. But Suryakumar knows how to deal with setbacks and he showed it once again during the ongoing 4th T20I.
Suryakumar got the chance in the playing eleven only because Ishan Kishan was injured and he made the most of it. Unlike on his debut, Suryakumar got a chance to bat. The team-management promoted him at number four and the Mumbai star repaid their faith by scoring a blazing fifty. In an innings where the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli failed to get going, Suryakumar looked a class apart.
Suryakumar Yadav’s breathtaking knock and controversial dismissal
Suryakumar Yadav walked out to bat in the fourth over after Rohit’s departure. He started his innings on a stunning note by dispatching Jofra Archer for a six on the very first ball he faced. There was no looking back since then. He was eventually out for 57 off 31 balls. Suryakumar’s whirlwind knock was laced with six fours and 3 sixes.
The 30-year old played his shots right from the start and showed his immense ability. He played shots all around the park as he took the England bowlers to the cleaners. Suryakumar reached his fifty off just 28 deliveries with a four. He could add seven more runs before departing. Interestingly, he was given out in a controversial manner without any conclusive evidence. Many cricketers reacted to the incident and bashed the third umpire for making a wrong decision.
Here are some of the reactions
Third umpire while making that decision. #INDvENGt20 #suryakumar pic.twitter.com/JJp2NldcI8

Violets are blue, so is Sky
Dear @icc 'soft signal' why?

No conclusive evidence ☹️

Two problems –
1. Malan lifted his fingers.
2. Field umpire lifted his finger.#IndvEng— Ramesh Srivats (@rameshsrivats) March 18, 2021
A soft signal for catches like this is just pointless. How is the umpire supposed to see from that far away? Just leave it to the TV umpire. #INDvENG

The fingers are not underneath that ball sir! 😱😱 #INDvENG

It was clearly not-out, feel for Suryakumar or anyone who was going in that form in his first innings in International career.

That umpire must be a really different guy, his perspective is so different from everybody else’s. He saw something different from what all of us saw. He’s a Lone Ranger. Respect sir. Respect.

Sorry but Dawid Malan totally dropped that for me…the ball was grounded ! I mean , come on 💁🏾♂️ #INDvENG 🏏

Really bad call by the 3rd umpire, this angle clearly shows the ball was grounded. pic.twitter.com/igl5sIApkt

LOL. THIS is the footage for next Lenskart Ad. What was inconclusive for the third umpire there? Fingers clearly moved away from the ball and it was seen in all angles. I get the soft signal but replays were conclusive enough! #IndvEng

The third umpire is confirming if more than 50% of the ball is touching the ground?

Suryakumar wasn't out! Fielders fingers slipped out from under the ball. @KP24
— Nikesh Arora (@nikesharora) March 18, 2021
Unacceptable shithousery. Absolutely pathetic. After a point, it's less about evidence and more about common sense. When the hands are so far apart, irrelevant of how big your fingers are, they can't be under it.
A fact that it's SKY hurts more. #SuryaKumarYadav pic.twitter.com/KPZssYjljY

Always a good idea to give 3rd umpire real time replay of low catches along with the slow motions and zoomed-in replays. Just another perspective on the tricky low catches. #INDvENGt20

Sack the Umpire. If this is OUT then you need to change all the rules of cricket. Unpardonable. #IndvEng @surya_14kumar

Personally, and do bear in mind that as a bowler I thought everything was out, I think that was a stinking decision.
— Graeme Swann (@Swannyg66) March 18, 2021
How can this be out. When you are not sure whether the ball was taken cleanly after watching so many replays using top class technology and still go by the soft signal given by the on-field umpire. I think this rule needs to be revisited and changed. #INDvsENG pic.twitter.com/b5XMdH8qEz
— VVS Laxman (@VVSLaxman281) March 18, 2021
It’s the “soft signal” which is odd. Hard for off field umpire to overturn. ‘Let’s go upstairs cause I don’t have a clue but I’m guessing (soft signal) it’s out.’
Malan’s Twitter feed will be ugly- but he wouldn’t have known the ball hit the ground diving forward at pace https://t.co/hCwlFQKpIf— Stuart Broad (@StuartBroad8) March 18, 2021
Unlucky Suryakumar Yadav poor decision by umpire onfield and 3rd umpire Hard luck SKY
