Manoj Tiwary demands a mandatory domestic local talent in every IPL team
Tiwary has 1,695 runs in 98 IPL matches from 2008 to 2018.
Manoj Tiwary, the Bengal cricketer, hasn’t been a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) ever since the 2018 edition of the T20 tournament. Back then, he represented the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). The veteran came into the line-up in place of Yuvraj Singh, but didn’t quite make much of an impact. In the next season, he was released and he hasn’t played in the IPL from there on.
Tiwary started his career, representing the Delhi Daredevils, now Capitals after which he moved to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He was also one of the unbeaten batters when the Knights beat the Chennai Super Kings in the final of the 2012 edition. He smacked Dwayne Bravo for a couple of fours to script glory. The Howrah-born then moved to the Rising Pune Supergiant.

There he plied his trade under the likes of MS Dhoni. But after RPS was dissolved following CSK and the Rajasthan Royals’ return from suspension, Tiwary was picked by the Punjab franchise. He is now 34 years old and it goes without saying that he needs something miraculous to bag another IPL contract. From 2008 to 2018, the right-handed batsman had played 98 matches.
In those games, he managed 1,695 runs at an average of 28.73 with seven half-centuries to show for his efforts. Now after going unsold for two seasons in a row, it’s not a surprise that Tiwary is disappointed. He has also expressed displeasure after being snubbed by the national selectors. He also put forth his numbers at the domestic level to present his case, but to no avail.
He last played for India way back in 2015 in the tour of Zimbabwe. He now had a question for the IPL teams and put it on his official Twitter account. Tiwary wants the IPL franchises to pick one mandatory domestic talent in every squad.
Asking about his query, Tiwary wrote, “Wanted to throw up a question related 2 #IPL How many of u all think of having a mandatory domestic local talent 2 be in their respective local franchise team ?? I will share my opinion later in d evening.”
