Bangladesh and Pakistan were scheduled to play three T20Is and two Test matches against each other. The Men in Green dominated the proceedings in the shortest format as they clinched the series 3-1. However, as per the recent turn of events, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon has said that people asked him to cancel the series against Pakistan owing to Bangladesh’s outing in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2021.
The Babar Azam-led side had an impressive run in the multination tournament. The side won all their matches of the Super 12 stage and booked their seat for the semi-finals. The team’s performances in the mega event fetched them praises from all around the cricketing world.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, had a contrasting fortune in the T20 World Cup 2021. The team lost all their five matches and did not open their account in the high-profile event. BCB president thus stated that taking into consideration the team’s form, many people requested the board to cancel the series with Pakistan.
People have assumed that we’ll not be able to fight with them: BCB President
“Many people requested me to cancel the Pakistan series. They said if we play with Pakistan now, it will be over, it will be a horrible situation. Can’t it be canceled? Believe me, this is the reality. People have assumed that we will not be able to fight with them,” BCB president said as quoted by bdcrictime.
Though Pakistan won the three-match T20I series 3-0, Bangladesh put up a strong fight in the last T20I. BCB president reflected on the same and heaped praises on the team for displaying great character against the opposition.
“Apart from regular cricketers Liton, Soumya, Mushfiqur, Shakib, and Tamim, almost a young team has been fielded against this strong Pakistan team. The way they fought, the way they played, satisfied my mind,” BCB president added.
Currently, Pakistan and Bangladesh are battling it out against each other in the second Test match. Pakistan won the first Test match in an impressive fashion. Though Bangladesh initially had the hold of the game, the Babar Azam-led side sealed the deal. Currently, in the second Test, day three was washed out as Pakistan is currently at 188-2.
