Marcus Trescothick stood out as England’s most reliable opener for a quiet period in both the Test and ODI formats in the early 2000s. Trescothick played a crucial role in England’s Test successes and was their best limited-overs bat between 2000 and 2006. However, Trescothick announced his International retirement in 2008 only due to stress factor. But he continued to represent his county side Somerset even till the age of 43.

4 – Marcus Trescothick’s four centuries are the joint-most by any player in Youth Test cricket. Three other players also scored four tons in Youth Tests. He is also one of the four players with 1000+ runs in Youth Tests having scored 1032 runs from 13 Tests for England Under-19s.
Trescothick amassed 467 runs alone in the 3-match home series against India Under-19s in 1994; the most by any player in a Youth Test series. He thus surpassed Damien Martyn’s tally of 466 runs in the 1991 series against England U19s.
12 – Number of centuries in ODI cricket for Trescothick; the 3rd most number by any player for England in this format. He was the first England player with ten or more ODI tons.
13 – Marcus Trescothick scored a 13-ball fifty in the Friends Provident T20 Cup in 2010 while playing for Somerset against Hampshire. He scored 27-ball 78 in that game with seven fours and seven sixes. His 13-ball fifty is the 2nd fastest in Twenty20 history behind Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle and Hazratullah Zazai’s 12-ball fifties.
23 – Marcus Trescothick recorded at least one fifty-plus score in all the 23 Test series he was part of. No other player featured in more Test series by scoring at least one fifty in all those series.
52 – Number of first-class hundreds Trescothick scored for Somerset. He is the only player to score 50 FC centuries for his club. His 19654 runs for Somerset are also the 2nd most behind Harold Gimblett’s 21142.
104 – His 104-run knock in the ICC Champions Trophy 2004 final against Windies is the only hundred ever scored by an England player in an ICC tournament final.
