Mark Boucher suggests switching off cell-phones after global lockdown due to COVID-19
The coronavirus is showing no signs of slowing down.
The COVID-19 effect has been creating lots of panic across the globe. The coronavirus cases have been going up at the rate of knots and there’s no stopping the death tolls as well. The scientists around the world are trying to find an apt antidote to the fatal virus, but nothing concrete has come to the fore just yet. China has been affected badly and the rest of the world has also fallen prey.
The sporting world has also come to a standstill due to the pandemic, which isn’t showing signs of slowing down. All cricket tournaments have either been suspended or been postponed as a precautionary measure to the COVID-19 virus. South Africa’s ODIs against India got cancelled after the abandoned game in Dharamsala. The games in Lucknow and Kolkata didn’t take place.
COVID-19 spewing venom on cricket
Even the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been postponed from March 29 to April 15 in the wake of the disaster. The Indian government also cancelled the visas, barring a few categories, after the coronavirus outbreak. New Zealand’s tour of Australia was also halted after a solitary ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground where the hosts came out trumps without dropping much sweat.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) was taking place until Sunday, March 15. However, it has also been cancelled after the semi-finalists were decided. The last few games at the National Stadium in Karachi were played behind closed doors. At the fag end of the tournament, a number of foreign cricketers, including Chris Lynn, David Wiese and Jason Roy decided to back out of the tournament.
The virus has created havoc to such an extent that even the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has allowed its employees to work from home until further notice. In the meantime, amidst coronavirus, South Africa coach Mark Boucher, had a piece of suggestion.
The former cricketer felt that in the global lockdown, one should also avoid using cell-phones at least for the next couple of weeks. He took to Twitter and wrote, “The only thing missing in this ‘global lockdown’ is the cell phone use! What about turning that off for 2 weeks as well!?”
