Mark Nicholas in good spirits after abdominal pain scare

Channel Nine commentator and former England county cricketer Mark Nicholas is said to be recovering from his predicament earlier today following his abdominal pain earlier today. During the break, there were reports from around the Melbourne Cricket Ground that the 59-year old was suffering from pain and had been sweating rather profusely.

While it is Nicholas who usually presides over the analysis break during the lunch and tea sessions was not present for his duties as former Australian batsman Michael Slater filled in for the prominent commentator during this time.

Slater also had the dubious honor of making the announcement that sent the cricketing world into a bit of a rude shock. Paramedics were made available for Nicholas as he was rushed off to the hospital for a further checkup. A few reports also go on to state that Nicholas had suffered a burst appendix.

A spokesperson from the Channel Nine network also went on to release a statement regarding the proceedings that had unfolded at the MCG on the day. She also went on to add that Mr. Nicholas had gone through the ‘appropriate’ medical procedures during his time in the hospital and would be expected to make a comeback into the haven of the commentary box in the near future.

However, whether Nicholas comes back to lend his voice in the future of the Boxing Day Test match remains to be seen.

“During a break today, Mark Nicholas had some abdominal pains. He has gone to the hospital for appropriate checks,” a Channel Nine spokeswoman said. “Mark is doing much better this evening and is in good spirits. He wants to thank the MCG staff for all of their help, and the Channel Nine viewers and cricket community for their good wishes.”
