Marnus Labuschagne is undoubtedly one of the biggest positives for Australia this summer. While Australia failed to win the Ashes but they retained the trophy and Marnus Labuschagne played a vital role in it. The right-handed batsman made it to Australia’s playing eleven with a stroke of luck. He was looking set to warm the bench for the entire series before Steve Smith suffered a delayed concussion in the second Test.

Labuschagne went on to become the first concussion substitute in international cricket and made the most of the chance. In his first three innings, he crossed the 50-run mark on each occasion. He eventually finished the series with 353 runs at 50.42 as Australia retained the Ashes for the first time in England since 2001.

Prior to his Ashes heroics, Labuschagne had also impressed in County Championship. In fact, it was his form in England’s domestic circuit that paved the way for him into the Ashes squad. The 25-year old Australian blasted 1,114 runs at an average of over 65 for Glamorgan before joining the national team for the Ashes.

One should also not forget the impact he made with the ball. In the thrilling fourth Test, Australia were struggling to break the stubborn partnership between Jack Leach and Craig Overton. In the end, Tim Paine handed the ball to Labuschagne and he made an instant impact by dismissing Leach in his very first over.

Commitment at best:

Marnus Labuschagne, on Sunday, once again showed just how committed he remains on the cricket field. He was playing for Queensland against Victoria in the ongoing Marsh One-Day Cup when he pulled off an outrageous run-out. Victoria’s Will Sutherland played one through the covers and the ball looked like going past Labuschagne.

Consequently, the batsmen set off for a single. However, Labuschagne made a full-length dive to his left and stopped the ball before firing the throw to the wicketkeeper. In the process, his pants came off. However, the Australia star did not worry about it and instead threw the ball in time before the wicketkeeper ran out Chris Tremain.
