Marsh One-Day Cup: Mackenzie Harvey gets injured after colliding with the fence
Western Australia scripted their second victory in the marquee league as they thrashed the opposition by a massive 170 runs.
Western Australia and Victoria were up against each other in the 11th match of Australia’s Domestic tournament, Marsh One-Day Cup 2021 on March 23, Tuesday at the WACA ground in Perth. Western Australia scripted their second victory in the marquee league as they thrashed the opposition by a massive 170 runs.
During the game, the viewers also witnessed a nasty incident as Victoria’s young left-handed batsman Mackenzie Harvey succumbed to an injury as he narrowly escaped disaster after colliding with a concrete fence while fielding. The concrete gutter was built just 2 meters away from the boundary line and Harvey, who was running to save a four smashed by Josh Inglis, couldn’t control his speed and slammed his body into the plastic fencing.
However, it was an error from the ground staff too as there was no foam covering on the top of the rope. In most of the international and Big Bash League, foam is used on the boundary line in the stadium to prevent such incidents. Meanwhile, as soon as Harvey got injured, his teammates ran towards him to see if he is okay.
Western Australia batsman Josh Inglis, who struck the ball that Harvey was trying to stop, also won hearts as he quickly reached out to the fielder at the boundary line. After an inspection by the medical staff, Harvey managed to stand up but rushed to the dressing room while rubbing his elbow and back.
A tough day for Harvey with the bat
While there has been no official announcement regarding the current fitness of the 20-year-old, Mackenzie Harvey didn’t return to the field for the final eight overs of WA’s innings. However, during Victoria’s innings, he had come to bat at number 6 but departed back to the pavilion after scoring just 6 runs after facing as many deliveries.
The video of the incident was shared by the official Twitter handle of Cricket.com.au with the caption, “Ouch! Hopefully, Mac Harvey is ok after this heavy collision with the WACA fence #MarshCup”
As far as the game is concerned, WA registered a massive total of 317 while batting first on the back of a stunning 91 runs by Josh Inglis. Chasing 318, Victoria didn’t have an ideal outing as they collapsed at 147 runs within 30.1 overs.
