Martin Guptill was the talk of the town after he managed to set Seddon Park in Hamilton ablaze with some amazing batting on the day. He remained unbeaten in his quest for another ODI double century before landing up quite nicely on 180. While he remained uneaten, the story of the comeback was quite amazing to say the least.
His injuries coupled with lack of form with the bat has been quite amazing to say the least. He has also been one of those players who has been one of the cleanest strikers of the ball. However, after a poor tour of India, Guptill was dropped from the Test side, something that has seen Mike Hesson call up the likes of Todd Astle and Tom Bruce to the side.
Hesson also went on to add that playing Test cricket was perhaps an entirely different ball game as far as Martin Guptill was concerned. He also added that the decision would be taken after looking at Guptill’s record in recent times with the bat, something that does not speak volumes of his abilities with the bat in Test cricket to say the least.
“He’s not in the Test side, I think you’ve probably got to look at Martin’s record at the moment and make that decision,” Hesson told Radio New Zealand.
“There’s plenty of examples around the world of players who have been extremely good at one format and not the other, hence there’s three different formats.”

In what can be viewed as a resurgence to his Test career, both Guptill and Hesson indicated that he might bat lower down the order to revive his Test career. “We’ve decided the middle order’s the place for him to push his case,” he said. “I’ll bat wherever, it doesn’t matter if it’s at 11,” he told Radio Sport.
