New Zealand senior batter Martin Guptill on July 27 (Wednesday) surpassed Team India skipper Rohit Sharma to become the highest run-scorer in the T20I format. Guptill achieved this feat during the first T20I match against Scotland at the Grange Cricket Club Ground in Edinburgh.

The Kiwi batter has now amassed 3,399 runs in the T20I format after playing 116 matches while Rohit has scored 3,379 runs after taking 12 more matches as compared to Guptill to reach that tally. Both Guptill and Rohit have achieved so much for their respective countries and are renowned for totally dismantling the opposition bowling line-up when they are in the mood.

Rohit Sharma has the chance to surpass Martin Guptill in the upcoming T20I series

While Guptill is expected to play the second and last T20I against Scotland, Rohit has the opportunity to outscore Guptill as he will be leading the Men in Blue in the upcoming five-match T20I series against the Men in Maroon. The first match of the series will be played on July 29 (Friday).

Talking more about Guptill’s innings against Scotland, the right-handed batter scored 40 runs off 31 balls and hit four fours and two maximums. His partner, Finn Allen completely demolished the Scottish bowling line-up as he completed an excellent maiden international hundred.

Some healthy contributions from James Neesham and Daryl Mitchell ensured that the BlackCaps crossed the 200-run mark in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, the home team’s top-order put on a solid show, but it was too much to ask from them as the visitors completed a comfortable victory.

Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi was impressive as he took a total of four wickets in his four-over quota and gave away just 28 runs. For Scotland, senior batter Calum MacLeod was the highest run-scorer after making 33 runs off just 24 balls and hitting three fours and one six. Both teams will take on each other during the second T20I match to be played at the same venue on July 29 (Friday).
