Mashrafe Mortaza, the former Bangladesh captain, earlier decided to auction of his bracelet for the ones affected in the coronavirus pandemic. It has his name engraved on it and has been there with him for the last 18 years. In the end, it was IPDC Finance, who brought the memorabilia for taka 42 lakhs. The veteran became a tad emotional before selling the bracelet off for the COVID fight.
However, despite auctioning it off, Mashrafe would be getting it back. Mominul Islam, the Executive and Management Director of the IPDC Finance said that the company would be gifting the treasured item, made of steel, back to the Narail Express. After the completion of the auction, on Facebook Live, Mashrafe took off the bracelet and Islam then put forth the pleasant surprise for him.
Mominul said that Mortaza could use the bracelet for the time being, reported by BDcrictime Bangla. On Saturday, May 16, the auction took off and on Sunday, May 17, the first data of the same was released around evening. Around 9 o’clock, the bidding had gone up to around taka 12 lakhs.
Around 11:45 at night, the right-arm Tigers’ speedster started the Facebook Live session. From there on, the bids on the bracelet sky-rocketed, eventually fetching a massive price. The money raised from the item would now be used for the welfare of the needy in the global pandemic situation.
Mortaza, being a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Narail Constituency, has been lending his helping hand for the underprivileged in the current scenario. Back in March, the legendary pacer donated half his Bangladesh’s cricket salary along with other cricketers from the national team.
Gibson asks Mashrafe Mortaza to retire
Mortaza’s cricket career is well and truly at the fag end. In March 2020, he captained the Tigers for the last time against Zimbabwe. But recently, Otis Gibson, the Bangladesh bowling coach, said that the veteran Mashrafe should hang his boots from international cricket.
As per Gibson, head coach Russell Domingo would be looking to form a team for the 2023 World Cup with young players. The Zimbabwe series was Mashrafe’s first after the 2019 World Cup. In the mega event last year, he could only pick up the solitary wicket of Jonny Bairstow.
