Match-fixing charge against Mohammed Shami is the only concern, says Rajeev Shukla
The Indian pacer may well be handed his IPL contract at the close of the CoA's report.
The Mohammed Shami controversy seems to find no end, with new angles to the story coming up daily. It all began when his wife of four years posted screenshots of the pacer’s personal messages with several women, but the genuineness of the same has not been proved as yet. His wife charged him with several allegations, following which Shami was booked by the Kolkata Police under various sections.
Shami has been charged under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (Causing hurt), 307 (Attempt to murder), 376 (Punishment for rape), 506 (Criminal intimidation), 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence.), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.
The BCCI is only interested in the match-fixing charge
However, another allegation that followed soon later was that of match-fixing. His wife alleged that Shami corrupted the game of cricket too. None of the allegations have been proved as correct by the investigation committee yet, but the Indian cricket board will decide Shami’s future in the IPL and Indian team only after the match-fixing allegations are studied and proved.
Rajeev Shukla, chairman of IPL said they were only concerned about the “match-fixing allegations part” regarding Shami’s inclusion in the Delhi Daredevils side for this season.
“I have been in touch with Neeraj Kumar, the investigating officer into this specific charge against Shami, and he has told me that a few more interrogations are pending before the closure of the case. The BCCI is only interested in this charge of his possible wrongdoing in the game before a go-ahead is given to his career. The rest is a family matter between Shami and his wife,” Shukla told Gulf News.
Apart from the match-fixing allegations, another glaring plot on Shami’s career is the attempt to murder his wife. If either of the two is proved correct, Shami’s otherwise bright career in the team can come to an end.
