When Matthew Wade hit Rohit Sharma on his head
Wade immediately apologized to Rohit and the batsman accepted his apology with a smile.
While an India-Australia game is always high in intensity, there was a light moment during India’s chase last night at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The incident happened in the 16th over when Matthew Wade was trying to lob the ball back to the bowler Travis Head but the ball remained stuck in his hand and fell short of the bowler, knocking Rohit Sharma on his head.
Rohit was jolted as he wasn’t expecting anything of that sort. It all ended in smiles all around but could have been a serious injury if the Mumbaikar wasn’t wearing a helmet. Wade immediately apologized and Head was quick to check on Rohit if he was okay. The 30-year old gave a thumbs up and had a rising smile on his face. At that moment, India were cruising in the chase as Rohit, in the company of Rahane, gave India a blistering start.

The blow seemed to have awakened Rohit a wee bit as he hit Adam Zampa for two sixes in the next over. The duo of Rohit and Rahane had a century stand for the consecutive time but their untimely departure, in space of 4 overs of each other, left India behind in the chase.
Pandya, Jadhav and Manish Pandey tried their best to get India close to the total but all three fell at the wrong time leaving Dhoni with too much work to do. India eventually fell short by 21 runs and registered their first loss in 10 ODIs. On the other hand, Smith’s men registered their first win in 14 away ODIs. It was a day where both sides broke their respective streaks.
Both teams will now be pitted against each other at the Vidarbha Cricket Association in Nagpur on Sunday in the final game of the ODI series. The 3-match T20 series will follow from next week.
