The former Australian legend Matthew Hayden is currently in India covering the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka. At the same time, the iconic Ashes series is being played down under as the hosts have won the first game in Brisbane at the Gabba. Hayden has left everyone befuddled by travelling all the way to India for the Test series leaving the Ashes. However, the left-hander replied in a hilarious way to a fan when he asked a similar question to him.

Hayden is enjoying his time covering the series between India and Sri Lanka and is also analysing the game for the official broadcaster Star Sports. But it seems that he wasn’t picked on a commentary panel for Ashes and hence he decided to come over to enjoy the other series live. In any case, he is at the centre stage in the pre and post shows and doesn’t seem to miss commentating in Ashes a lot.

Never miss the Ashes

Ravichandran Ashwin, the off-spinner of India, became the fastest bowler to reach 300 wickets (54 Tests) during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. He broke the record Dennis Lillee who achieved the feat in 56 Tests. Hayden congratulated his ex-teammate at the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on social media website Twitter. His message for Ashwin read, “Congratulations @ashwinravi99 on joining the illustrious 300 Club @ChennaiIPL #Whistlepodu forever @BCCI @StarSportsIndia.”

One of the fans had the same kind of doubt and dared to ask the big man about his absence in the Ashes. “Why do you want to miss The Ashes and be here, Champion???” the curious fan asked.

However, Hayden came up with a funny reply which was enjoyed by his fans a lot. His response to the fan was, “Never miss the Ashes…..the Ashes just miss me hahahahaha.” Matthew Hayden is one of the legendary figures in Australia and it is strange that he isn’t covering Ashes being such a brilliant analyst of the game.
