Mayank Agarwal feels Prithvi Shaw made batting look so easy on his way to debut Test ton
Shaw was preferred ahead of Agarwal and the youngster grabbed the opportunity with both the hands.
Mayank Agarwal was full of praises for his teammate Prithvi Shaw after he notched up his maiden Test century in Rajkot on Thursday. Shaw, just 18, made his international debut on in the ongoing first Test between India and the Windies. The World Cup-winning U19 captain was handed his maiden Test cap by the skipper Virat Kohli on Thursday morning, after which he opened the batting for India along with KL Rahul.
Shaw lost his partner in the very first over the match, but got off to a brisk start himself. He soon got to his half-century and went to lunch just 20 odd away from a dream start to his Test and international career. He made batting look very easy and scored runs freely in the middle. Shaw got to his century with local boy Cheteshwar Pujara at the other end, much to the delight of the Indian dressing room who gave the youngster a standing ovation.
Shaw’s dream debut
Prithvi Shaw had been impressive during India A’s tour of England, and was knocking on the doors of the national team. He was in fact called up for the final two Tests against England but did not get an opportunity to play. On the eve of the first Test between India and the Windies, the team management announced that Prithvi Shaw would be making his debut on the following day.
Mayank Agarwal is also in the squad for the Indian team, and could perhaps get a chance to play in the second Test. Agarwal and Shaw have been prolific with the bat for India A, and the former was all praises for young Prithvi. He tweeted, “What a knock @PrithviShaw. Made batting there look easy!”
India have continued to dominate the proceedings on the second day as well with Kohli reaching his 24th Test ton without even breaking a sweat. They have crossed the 500-run mark and it will be interesting to see when will the hosts declare and then spin a web around the visitors with the ball.
