Mayank Markande is looking forward to sharing the dressing room with Rohit Sharma

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the T20I squad for the three-match series against Australia, which is scheduled to get underway on Sunday, February 24 with the first match to be played in Visakhapatnam. The selectors have included Mayank Markande, the 21-year-old leg-break bowler, for the 20-overs fixtures. He has shown good form in the last few months.

The youngster has played 18 T20s in which he has notched 20 wickets with best bowling figures of 4/23. The tweaker came into the limelight when he made his maiden appearance for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, who recently captained the Indian team in two ODIs and three T20Is against New Zealand.

I am not even thinking about getting in the playing XI

Markande picked up five wickets in the unofficial One Day series against England Lions. Recently, the pugnacious potential racked up a five-wicket haul against the Lions and helped India A to a victory by an innings and 68 runs in the second unofficial Test match in Mysore. After the maiden national call-up, Markande was delighted and he’s looking forward to sharing the dressing room with Rohit, his IPL captain.

“Sharing the Indian dressing room with Rohit Sharma will be special. He had motivated me a lot during the IPL. I always kept talking to him. He is a legend of the game now so I always try to learn as much as possible from him,” Markande was quoted as saying to the reporters.

Nevertheless, Markande isn’t thinking about breaking into the playing eleven. Furthermore, he said that he is excited to bowl with MS Dhoni as the wicketkeeper, “As for now I am not even thinking about getting in the playing XI. But if I do then having MS Dhoni keep for me will be special,” the Punjab born added.
