The television cricket presenter Mayanti Langer has shut down a random Twitter user for tagging her in a post unnecessarily without any relevance. She is generally trending on social media and so is her husband Stuart Binny who plays for Karnataka in the domestic arena. He is vying for a place in the national side as Mayanti has been doing her job professionally hosting the pre and post-match shows on Star Sports. However, she was involved in a verbal altercation with a Twitter user as he tagged her in an irrelevant post after the Indian team was picked for the ODI series in South Africa.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 17-man squad for the upcoming six-match ODI series against Proteas in their own den on Saturday evening. The selectors opted to go with the wrist-spinners and continued to ignore R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for the umpteenth time this season. Even Suresh Raina was not picked despite clearing the yo yo fitness test earlier this week. Few selections did not go well with the fans and as usual, they expressed their disappointment on Twitter.

Bemused Mayanti

The official Twitter handle of BCCI revealed the news of India’s 17-man squad for the ODIs in South Africa late on Friday evening. Soon the comments started to flow as he fans analysed the side with their perspective. The parody account of Mayanti Langer, however, trolled the selection committee in a way by tweeting, “Very Good Selection. Ashwin is useless in Overseas in limited overs cricket. Team India lost champions trophy because of ashwin. Select one more multi talented all rounder like Stuart Binny.”

But a twitter user named Shyam Sundar unnecessarily tagged Mayanti Langer and criticised her for supporting her husband. The comment was clearly to seek the attention of Twitterati and nothing else as Mayanti blasted out on him and requested him not to tag in such irrelevant posts. Mayanti’s reply read, “You do realise that’s not me right? Request you not to tag me. Thanks.” The user, however, realised that he has messed up the things and right away apologised to the wife of the cricketer for the mistake.

While every cricketer is talented, it is surely wrong to tag there near and dear ones on social media for their non-performance to seek unnecessary attention. This response from the cricket presenter would for sure refrain some of the users from posting such comments on Twitter now.
