The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to slash the ticket prices for the spectators for the upcoming India v England Test match to be played between the 8th and the 12th of December at the Wankhede Stadium. Reports go on to suggest that the rates of for the match have been slashed considerably as opposed to Sachin Tendulkar’s swansong all those years ago in 2013.

Sharad Pawar, the chair of the Managing Committee of the Wankhede Stadium chaired a meeting that took the executive decision to slash the prices for certain popular stands. For example, the lower Sunil Gavaskar stand will be the cheapest at Rs. 100 for any fan wanting to watch the five-day game. ”We have decided to keep the ticket rates cheaper as compared to the rates we had maintained during the Tendulkar Test match,” MCA sources said.

The ticket for the Sunil Gavaskar East Lower Stand will cost up to Rs. 300 as opposed to the cost three years ago when the West Indies played a Test match at this venue. In 2013, the cost of the tickets was between Rs. 200 and Rs. 500. The upper tier of the same stand will not cost a fan almost half the price for both daily as well as for the season ticket holders.

While the price was Rs. 300 (daily) and Rs. 1000 (season) three years ago, the new price quoted is Rs. 150 (daily) and Rs. 500 (season). The report also goes on to suggest that there is a special enclosure in the Sachin Tendulkar stand which is set to attract the folks who are willing to spend Rs. 10,000 for the match.

In what is expected to be a new initiative by the MCA, fans would be served snacks as well as lunch, something they would have to pay for in the stands. Earlier, this had been banned by the committee following incidents where food and bottles had been hurled at opposition players fielding along the boundary.“They would be given snacks and lunch like we had done three years ago. We expect mostly visiting fans to buy them although Indians can also pick them up,” the sources said.

England is set to play a five-match Test series in India which is expected to be in and around the duration of a month.
