It was only a few months back that an off-field scandal shook Australian cricketer Tim Paine’s life. It was revealed that Paine was involved in a series of explicit messages which were sent to a woman named Renee Ferguson. In the latest turn of events, it has been reported that the woman has agreed to settle the matter privately and outside court.
Ferguson, who received several lewd messages from the former Australia skipper in 2017, opened about in detail in November 2021. However, during a hearing on case management, women’s lawyer Greg Barnes SC stated that the matter can be settled privately and is possible of having mediation.
On the other hand, lawyer Bruce McTaggart SC for CA added that his client has stated that there is no purpose in this plan of action and did not agree with the woman’s request for an extension of the application.
“It is a particularly weak case on the merits, a very extensive delay of three years and prejudice caused to Cricket Tasmania in that the employees named have moved on,” Mr. McTaggart told the court as quoted by foxsports.com.
It has to be noted that another twist in the story came when Mr. McTaggart after a brief pause added that his client agrees to mediation under certain conditions. The people who were alleged of lewd actions in the lawsuit including Paine, his brother-in-law, and cricketer Shannon Tubb don’t have documents detailing their allegations as provided to the media.
“We’re both f–ked if this got out,” the woman said earlier.

It has to be noted that after a series of sexting drama, Paine stepped down as Australia’s Tests skipper and added that his actions do not go well with a leader of the national side.
“Today I am announcing my decision to step down as the captain of the Australian cricket team. It is an incredibly difficult decision but the right one for me, my family, and cricket,” said Paine earlier.
