Mehedi Hasan earns maiden ODI call up for series against Sri Lanka
Bangladesh teenage sensation Mehedi Hasan who has proved his bowling credentials in his brief Test career was rewarded for his impressive performance after the right arm off spinner received his maiden call-up in ODI cricket for the upcoming 3 match ODI series against Sri Lanka starting on Saturday. The 19 year hogged the limelight after bagging 19 wickets in his maiden Test series against England which also helped Bangladesh to register their maiden Test win against the inventors of the game.
He was also an integral part of the squad when the tourists won their maiden Test against Sri Lanka in their 100th Test. They also became the 4th nation to win their 100th Test. Courtesy their victory the two-match series was shared 1-1. Despite leading the wicket-takers chart in the Test series, Mehedi was left out for the ODI series before being recalled after the conclusion of the Test series. He is expected to reach Colombo today.
Another uncapped player Sunzamul Islam received his maiden call-up while Shuvagato Hom was recalled back. Mehedi Hasan grabbed headlines during the U-19 World Cup where he led his country for the 2nd time and his all-round performance helped them reach the semi-final of the tournament before losing to eventual champions West Indies in the semis.
In 7 matches Mehedi has played so far in his Test career, the off-spinner has bagged 35 wickets at an average of 31. He is also a useful lower order batsman and smashed a fluent half-century against India in the one-off Test very recently. In 19 first-class matches, Mehedi has taken 76 wickets at an average of 27.
