Bangladesh all rounder, Mehidy Hasan, after a spirited performance against the Aussies on the second day of the Dhaka Test match commented that it was a unified effort from the bowling unit which gave them the upper hand in the ongoing game.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim opted to bat first and posted a total of 260, thanks to brilliant knocks from Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. In reply, Australia could only manage a 217, giving away a lead of 43. Shakib was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged yet another five-wicket haul in his Test career.

The Australian struggle against spinning condition continued as it looked very bleak for the Baggy Greens at 144/8. It was only due to the fighting innings from Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins, battimg at 9 and 10, that Australia gave away a respectable lead. Mehedy Hasan picked up three wickets, giving support to the Bangladeshi talisman at the other end.

“I think our bowlers really bowled well and in partnerships,” Mehidy said. “No matter in what manner the wicket behaves, unless you can bowl in the right areas it is difficult to earn success. I think we managed to do that and it was due to that we are in this position,” he added.

Hasan on Shakib’s feat

“It was a unified effort by us as a bowling unit. While Shakib bhai bowled exceptionally, there was little contribution by me along with Taijul and Mustafiz. Though he did not get any wicket still he managed to restrict the flow of runs,” Hasan stated.

Earlier, Shakib joined the elite club of Muralitharan, Herath and Dale Steyn who have a five-wicket haul against all Test playing nation. “You cannot finish talking about him as he is reaching one milestone after another. It’s a great honor to play alongside him as he shares his experience with us on his way to reach such heights,” concluded the 19-year-old.
