The ongoing series between India and Bangladesh as well as the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 seem to have taken a backseat ever since the IPL playing regulations, drafted by the Governing Council, were revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on September 29, 2024.
Apart from the number of retention slabs for the auction, the proposed policy for foreign players, repercussions on last-minute pull-outs, and the additional money the players will be receiving, the most talked about revision is the defintion of an uncapped player.
Up until the previous mega-auction which was conducted in 2022, any player who had not made their debut for their national side was classified as an uncapped player. However, from IPL 2025 onwards, any Indian player who has not been part of the playing XI in any international fixture or held a contract affiliated to the BCCI within the last five years is to be classiffied as an uncapped player.

A lot of chatter is doing the rounds that this particular rule has been tweaked for former Indian and Chennai Super Kings skipper, MS Dhoni, so that he can feature for CSK for yet another IPL season. However, the speculations cannot be completely ruled out as Dhoni held a BCCI-affiliated contract till the time he decided to call it a day from international cricket (August 15, 2020) and he had last featured in the playing XI of the Indian setup on July 10, 2019, back when India lost their semi-final clash against New Zealand at the 50-over World Cup in England.
