Men's T20 World Cup 2020: ICC announces the schedule of the tournament

The Super 12 Round will begin on October 24.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the schedule of the T20 World Cup 2020 which will be held in Australia. For the first time, the Men’s and Women’s tournament will take place as the standalone events. The Men’s World Cup is set to start on October 18 and will go on until November 15. A total of 12 teams will fight it out for the glory as the top eight-ranked teams qualify directly for the Super 12 round.

Afghanistan is the notable team to qualify directly having ranked eighth in the ICC T20I rankings. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will play the qualifiers which is determined as the first Round of the event. A total of eight teams will fight for the four places in the qualifiers. The remaining six teams for the First Round will be determined via a qualifying tournament to be held later in 2019.

Super 12 to start on October 24

Australia, the hosts, will start their campaign with the Super 12 round (main round) against the World’s top-ranked team Pakistan on October 24 at the SCG. India, on the other hand, will lock horns against South Africa on the same day at the Perth Stadium. The tournament will take place across eight cities and 13 venues.

Windies will start their title defence on October 25 at the iconic MCG against New Zealand. The two semi-finals will be played on November 11 and 12 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and the Adelaide Oval respectively. The final, like the Women’s, will be played at the MCG and a record crowd of over 90 thousand is expected to turn out.

Group B: Bangladesh, QB2, QB3, QB4
