MI coach, Jonty Rhodes blessed with a water baby names it India Jeanne: Mumbai Indians fielding coach and former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes and wife Melanie Jeanee are blessed with a baby daughter. It’s a water baby for Jonty whose wife Melanie delivered the girl at a Santacruz hospital on Thursday afternoon.

He broke the news to everyone on twitter with the tweet,

“@mipaltan good luck tonight from baby Rhodes!! India Jeanne Rhodes born 3:29pm weighing 3.7kg! Mum and baby perfect #ApunKaSuperstars,”

The couple has named their daughter, born in the midst of the IPL cricketing season, India Jeanne Jonty Rhodes. “The baby girl, born by natural water birth, at 3.29pm weighs 3.71 kg. The couple is extremely overwhelmed and thrilled about the new addition to the family,” said Dr Bhupendra Avasthi of Surya Mother and Child Care hospital at Santa Cruz.

Dr Avasthi said that the couple had been preparing for the water birth for the last three months, he said, “Birthing in water is considered to be one of the most beneficial options for a woman and her baby. It creates a naturally calm and peaceful atmosphere and allows the freedom of movement and pain release,”

Water birth is a form of delivery which is not very popular in India, but is extremely popular in the Western countries like the UK and the US. It’s based on the fact that babies find water as a natural habitat as they float in amniotic fluid in their mother’s womb for nine months. Many hospital chains like Fortis’s Mommamia offer the option to mothers-to-be.

“We have been offering water birth for the last four year and have delivered 35 children so far,” said Dr Veda Simons of Sherekar Hospital.
