Mumbai Indians suffered their seventh successive defeat on Thursday (April 21) courtesy of a MS Dhoni special. The former Chennai Super Kings captain went absolutely berserk and took his side to glory from the jaws of defeat. He scored an unbeaten 28 off 13 balls which also included a last-ball boundary. As a result, CSK clinched the contest by three wickets as MI remained winless in IPL 2022.

Meanwhile, besides making his bat talk at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, Dhoni also plotted the dismissal of Kieron Pollard in the first innings. The West Indies dasher arrived in the 14th over and was aiming to give MI the much-required late flourish. He even smashed a six and a boundary in his first eight deliveries as there was a little enhancement in the scoring rate.

However, Dhoni’s brilliant tactic meant Pollard’s stay at the crease was cut short. During the 17th over of the game, which was bowled by Maheesh Theekshana, Dhoni placed Shivam Dube straight down the ground for a catching opportunity. You don’t usually see a fielder being placed at that position. But, Dhoni, who’s well versed with Pollard’s strength, made the move and it paid dividends for CSK.

The Caribbean striker went for a big shot in the second ball and Dube accepted an easy catch near the boundary ropes. It was certainly a crucial moment in the game as Pollard’s early exit meant MI were restricted to 155/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Fans were mighty impressed with Dhoni’s strategy as social media got flooded with praises.

While many went in nostalgia, several lauded the wicketkeeper-batter for helping Ravindra Jadeja amid the latter’s early days as CSK captain. Meanwhile, Jadeja was all praises for Dhoni after the game, hailing the wicketkeeper-batter as the greatest finisher. “We were very tense the way game was going. But the great finisher of the game was still there, so we knew we had a chance. He’s still here and doing it for us,” said the star all-rounder.
