Senior Indian and Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer wreaked havoc on the batting line-up of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the group stage match being played at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on May 9 (Monday). The senior Indian pacer took his maiden five-wicket haul in the IPL and gave away only 10 runs in his four-over quota.
To note, Bumrah scalped some crucial wickets in the form of Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, wicketkeeper-batter Sheldon Jackson, Australian pacer Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine. Bumrah was quite effective with his line and length and gave away nothing to the KKR batters.
Jasprit Bumrah dented KKR’s innings
Despite some excellent bowling performance from Bumrah, KKR batters managed to post 165/9 in their allotted 20 overs. For the two-time champions, batter Rana, Ventakesh Iyer, and Rinku Singh played some crucial knocks. Apart from Bumrah, Daniel Sams, Murugan Ashwin, and spinner Kumar Kartikeya were the other successful bowlers for MI. The onus will be on the MI batters to chase down the target and register their third consecutive victory in the 15th edition of the IPL.
It must be noted that the five-time champions are having a horrible time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The Men in Blue and Gold are placed right at the bottom of the points table after losing eight of their ten matches in the tournament. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have been struggling to score runs and to add more problems for MI, their star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the tournament.
However, the five-time champions have managed to win their last two encounters against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals in their previous group stage matches. MI are mostly out of the tournament but will want to win their remaining matches in the tournament, considering that they are the most successful team in the history of the IPL. The five-time champions will next take on the defending champions Chennai Super Kings.
