Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul has been imposed with a monetary penalty of INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow 0ver-rate during his side’s group stage clash against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI). To note, Rahul has been fined under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offence.
To note, LSG managed to get on top against the Men in Blue and Gold by 18 runs in the group stage match of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on April 16 (Saturday). As a result, MI have now lost its sixth consecutive match in IPL 2022 and is languishing at bottom of the table.
KL Rahul slammed his third IPL century
Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma after winning the toss, elected to bowl first. Openers Rahul and former MI opener Quinton de Kock (24 off 13 balls) looked in great touch, adding 52 runs for the first wicket before the latter lost his wicket while attempting a reverse sweep. However, skipper Rahul went on with his business against the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills. The 29-year-old unleashed his beast mode towards the end of LSG innings as he registered a fine century. His unbeaten 103 runs from 60 deliveries powered LSG to a stiff total of 199/4.
For MI, Jaydev Unadkat (two wickets), West Indies all-rounder Fabian Allen (one wicket), and Murugan Ashwin (one wicket) were the successful bowlers. However, senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of bowlers, as he gave away only 24 runs in his four-over quota.
In reply, MI was jolted at the start of their batting as they lost the key wickets of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma cheaply. Dewald Brevis (31 off 13 balls), Suryakumar Yadav (37 off 27 balls) and Tilak Varma (26 off 26 balls) tried to bring MI into the contest. West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard also tried to keep Mumbai in the hunt with a 14-ball 25. However, none of the MI batter efforts yielded any results as LSG completed a victory over MI by 18 runs.
Pacer Avesh Khan (three wickets), Jason Holder (one wicket), Dushmanta Chameera (one wicket), Ravi Bishnoi (one wicket), and Marcus Stoinis (one wicket) were successful bowlers for LSG. Skipper KL Rahul was adjudged player of the match for his excellent hundred.
