Time is running out for Mumbai Indians as they are yet to record a win in IPL 2022 despite playing four games. Hence, they must leave no stones unturned to earn two points against Punjab Kings in their next assignment. The encounter takes place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Wednesday (April 13). However, their job won’t be easy as PBKS are one of the most balanced sides in the tournament.

They have sort of blown hot and cold so far, winning two of their four games. However, considering the strength and form of MI, Mayank Agarwal’s team will definitely take the field as favourites. PBKS also have a point to prove as they suffered a heartbreaking defeat from the hands of Gujarat Titans in their last outing. The Kings looked in command right till the very end but Rahul Tewatia spoiled their party, smashing two sixes when 12 were needed off the final two deliveries.

Odean Smith was the culprit for PBKS and we might witness some changes in the playing XI. However, the team looks fine in other departments. While Liam Livingstone, Shikhar Dhawan and Shah Rukh Khan have been scoring runs, Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahal have been handling the bowling duties. Although some loopholes in the side have been exposed, the side is a force to reckon with when the players click.

As far as MI are concerned, lots of issues need to be addressed. The five-time champions baffled everyone with their team selection as they named only two overseas players in their last assignment against Royal Challengers Bangalore, benching the likes of Tim David, Tymal Mills and Fabien Allen. The strange strategy clearly didn’t work as RCB walked away with a comfortable seven-wicket triumph. Hence, there must be some changes in the XI.

Pitch and Conditions

The track at the MCA Stadium in Pune has been conducive for scoring runs and assistance to bowlers has also been seen at his venue. As the humidity will be on the higher side, dew is set to play a major factor. Moreover, chasing teams have a better record here and hence, the toss-winning skipper must choose to bowl first.

Playing combination for MI vs PBKS

Mumbai Indians

As Ramandeep scored a 12-ball six and didn’t get to bowl against RCB, he should make way for West Indies all-rounder Fabien Allen, who has been warming the benches so far. Although dropping the youngster after just one outing won’t fair, time is running out for MI. In other change, either Tymal Mills or Riley Meredith can replace Basil Thampi as the Indian pacer has been off-colour lately.

Predicted XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Dewald Brevis, Kieron Pollard, Fabian Allen, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Jaydev Unadkat, Basil Thampi/ Tymal Mills/ Riley Meredith

Punjab Kings

Odean Smith had a hard time restricting the run-flow and the same has hurt PBKS. Hence, Rishi Dhawan can come at his expense as the all-rounder has been doing well lately. With one overseas player going out, PBKS would be tempted to include Bhanuka Rajapaksa as the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper played destructive knocks in the first couple of games. Unfortunately, Jitesh Sharma would make way for him.

Predicted XI: Mayank Agarwal (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Shahrukh Khan, Rishi Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Vaibhav Arora, Arshdeep Singh
