The story of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) has taken a sudden twist in the recent past. For the MI, the UAE-scare of 2014 seems to have long gone as they will be in search of their third win in a row when they meet the Royals on 6th October 2020 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Quite contrastingly, RR will be out to avoid a third straight defeat as they have been pale of late.

Speaking about geographical luck, the Royals were enjoying their run at Sharjah, where they involved themselves in some run-feasts and ended up both defending and chasing two 200-plus totals.

The script has taken a different turn, however, ever since they have stepped inside the bigger grounds– Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Their unit has not appeared even remotely as threatening as they did in the first two clashes. The star from the first two games– Sanju Samson –has not reached double-digits in the two games that have followed.

While Jos Buttler has not been able to make an impact in accordance with his reputation, Robin Uthappa and Riyan Parag have not been able to strike the correct chord and make their presence felt either.

For Royals, the form of Rahul Tewatia and Jofra Archer has been quite a delight. In their last match too, it was the handy contributions from Tewatia and Archer alongside the anchoring effort of Mahipal Lomror, that led the team to a modest total of 154 for 6. However, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal made the chase look like a stroll in the park.

On the other hand, someone or the other has risen on different occasions from the Mumbai Indians’ outfit to keep things under control. Their top-order has been in the runs; finishers have smothered the opponents; death bowlers have been nearly-impeccable, and fielders have bucked up extremely well. Debunking their odd-year-success myth, the MI side has ticked off most of the boxes in the last couple of games in the even year of 2020.

Responsible contributions from the entire middle-order after a smart half-century from opener Quinton de Kock led MI to 208 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the last game. 6 wickets between the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, James Pattinson and Trent Boult restricted opponents comfortably short to put themselves at the summit of the tally. Stepping out on Tuesday, MI will look to continue their streak of winning, whereas the RR will be keen to stop their streak of losses.

Pitch and conditions

The track at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium has been slightly treacherous and has favoured the bowlers a tad bit. The batsmen have preferred to spend a bit of time in the middle before going after the bowlers. The presence of dew has been a given, however, the impact of it on the game has not been as high as one would usually expect. The longer boundaries have tested the fielders and batsmen and the hot weather has only added to the challenge.

Playing Combinations for MI vs RR

Mumbai Indians Probable 11

Quinton de Kock and Pandya brothers had a good day out against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last game, whereas Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard have contributed well in the previous matches. Skipper Rohit Sharma missed out last time, though he has been in great touch otherwise.

James Pattinson has proved his worth extremely well after walking in as a replacement, whereas Trent Boult has been on his task with responsibility too. Jasprit Bumrah, who bagged a couple in the last clash, has not looked at his best this year in terms of economy.

Probable 11- Rohit Sharma (C), Quinton de Kock (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, James Pattinson, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Rajasthan Royals Probable 11

After dropping the young Yashasvi Jaiswal to make way for Jos Buttler, the latter has done little to justify the tactic. In the last couple of matches, Steve Smith and Sanju Samson have failed to click and that has led exposed their middle-order.

Mahipal Lomror and Rahul Tewatia will pick themselves, however, RR might bring in Jaiswal at the expense of Parag. The Royals have found themselves over-relying on Jofra Archer owing to the struggle of Jayadev Unadkat and the expensive spells of Tom Curran.

Probable 11- Jos Buttler (WK), Steve Smith (C), Sanju Samson, Robin Uthappa, Mahipal Lomror, Riyan Parag/Yashavi Jaiswal, Rahul Tewatia, Jofra Archer, Tom Curran, Shreyas Gopal, Jaydev Unadkat/Kartik Tyagi
