The former Australian batsman Michael Bevan has expressed his interest in the coaching the Aussie batsmen, albeit in the limited overs format. Steve Smith, the skipper, recently was infuriated about the frequent collapses that have jaded the side and thought the batters needed to make proper decisions under pressure. The helping hand of the one-day wizard in Bevan would surely be a boon for the Australian team.
They are currently on a tour to India and are in dire straits after losing the first couple of games in the 5-match ODI series. The main reason for the defeats is the inability of the batsmen to combat spin and losing wickets when under the pump. Australia had to win both the games when they had reduced India to 87/5 in Chennai and had restricted them to 252 in Kolkata but were found wanting in the chase as they lost wickets in heap.
Michael Clarke welcomes Bevan’s suggestion
The Aussie batting collapse is not new as it has become a trend in the longest format of the game as well off late. Especially in the One-Day games away from home, they have struggled a lot. They lost 6/63 on Thursday night, 109/8 in a rain-reduced chase in Chennai last Sunday, 118/8 in their Champions Trophy loss to England at Edgbaston in June, 67/6 against New Zealand at Eden Park in February, and 121/8 against South Africa in Port Elizabeth 12 months ago.
After the recent drubbing at the hands of India, Bevan could not help himself and took to social media to put his hand up for assisting the current lot of batsmen in ODIs at least.
He posted a message on Twitter to make his intentions clear, he wrote: “@CricketAus would love to be considered for the role of ODI batting coach -where do I apply?”
The former skipper and a commentator in the ongoing series, Clarke, was elated and said that the team needs the expertise of the veteran batsman. His reply to the message was, “Exactly what this team needs buddy.”

However, it remains to be seen if the Cricket Australia has any intention of appointing a batting coach considering their next big assignment is the Ashes at home and if they pick Bevan for the role, would surely aid their title defence in 2019.
