Michael Clarke wants MS Dhoni to bat at number 5 position
I would prefer to have Dhoni batting at No. 5. With Virat Kohli at No. 3: Clarke
Former Australian world cup winning captain and renowned commentator, Michael Clarke, who is currently covering the ongoing series between India and Australia, stated that he would want MS Dhoni to bat at the number five position.
Clarke also believed that it remains crucial for the Australians to win the Second ODI at Kolkata on September 11 in order to win the series. In a detailed interview, he also claimed that the current Indian team can be the best side ever produced if they manage to win the upcoming away series against Australia, England and South Africa.
‘Pup’ was asked if he were the Indian captain, where would he want MS Dhoni to bat, keeping in mind the 2019 World Cup. To which, Michael Clarke replied by saying,”I would prefer to have Dhoni batting at No. 5. With Virat Kohli at No. 3 and Dhoni at No. 5, the youngsters in the team can bat around them,” according to TOI.
In the previous match, Kedar Jadhav was sent above the MSD to bat at the number 5 position, when the chips were down. Jadhav impressed briefly as his innings was curtailed by a soft dismissal when at 40.
Clarke affirms Kolkata ODI remains crucial for Australia
“I think Australia can still win the series, but for that, they need to find a way to win in Kolkata. The conditions here should suit them,” retorted Clarke when asked to predict the outcome of the ongoing series. India managed to win the Chennai ODI and take a 1-0 lead in the 5-match ODI series.
“India is the No.1 Test side in the world. They are a very good team. They have a huge opportunity as they are slated to play South Africa, England and Australia abroad over the next 15 months. If they win those three series, they will certainly rank as a great outfit – perhaps one of the best-ever Indian sides,” rated Clarke.
