India are currently playing the third Test of the five-match series against England at Trent Bridge. Virat Kohli and his men are 0-2 down and need some incredible efforts to turn their fortunes around. Their performances have been inconsistent, so much so that they were forced to make three alterations to the playing eleven prior to the important encounter.

In the meantime, somewhere in Mumbai, former Indian cricketer Ajit Wadekar passed away. He breathed his last on August 15, India’s Independence day at a hospital in South Mumbai. Albeit he played only 37 Tests and two ODIs, he captained his team to their maiden series’ victories in England and West Indies. He retired from international cricket in 1974.

Holding takes a dig at India

Meanwhile, in the ongoing Test in Nottingham, the Indian players decided to pay tribute to the former cricketer. While taking the field, they sported black armbands as a mark of respect to the legendary cricketer. However, Michael Holding, the former Windies‘ cricketer, mocked the act by the players after which he revealed the main reasons behind the same as per reports in Times Now.

He took a jibe at the Indian team and their poor performance thus far in the series while commentating during the match for Sky Sports. “Indian players are wearing the black band not because they are 0-2 down,” he mentioned.

India has had a dismal campaign thus far in the series. The visiting team ran England close in the opening Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, but couldn’t cross the finishing line, eventually falling short by 31 runs. Virat Kohli scored 149 and 51 runs respectively, but couldn’t rescue his team.

The second match at Lord’s Cricket Ground turned out to be a drab affair as they lost by a mammoth margin of an innings and 159 runs. On both innings’, India were shot out for paltry scores. England, on the contrary, has been exceptional and has gone from strength.
