Michael Holding stresses on one condition Virat Kohli needs to fulfil to be hailed as 'great'
Michael Holding noted that Kohli has been scoring runs at will.
Former West Indies cricketer Michael Holding is very clear in his opinions about the Indian captain Virat Kohli. Kohli is revered as one of the iconic players in the current world cricket. However, Holding still refrains from calling Virat a ‘great’ cricketer. As per the recent quotes in the Mumbai Mirror, the former cricketer revealed the condition after which he will put Kohli in the bracket of the greats.
Michael Holding noted that Kohli has been scoring runs at will. However, he is yet to perform in the English conditions. Hence, in his opinion, the Indian cricket team captain can put himself in the bracket of the greats of the game after he scores runs in England.
“Virat Kohli is a fantastic batsman. I was asked to name three top cricketers and I included Kohli on that list. He is a very, very good player. When I see him score runs in England, I would call him a great player. I like people who score runs everywhere. He is an extremely good player,” quoted Michael Holding.
The best of the lot
Speaking further on the same note, Michael Holding revealed the names of the three cricketers who he feels are the best in the world cricket at the moment. Indian skipper Virat Kohli certainly bagged a spot in Holding’s list. In addition to Kohli, the former West Indies cricketer named England’s Joe Root and Australian skipper Steve Smith to be the other two on the list of top three.
Commenting on AB de Villiers, who is rated as one of the best modern-day cricketers, Holding stressed on the fact that the South African veteran has just made a comeback to the Test cricket. He needs to prove his mettle yet again in the longest format.
“The three cricketers I think are the best now are Joe Root, Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. AB de Villiers has just come back into Test cricket and let’s see how he does. I don’t want to include him yet in that list,” said the former cricketer.
