Michael Vaughan is alarmed by England's dismal batting at Trent Bridge
He was curious to see his team bat after India put a substantial total on the board.
The third Test match between England and India at Trent Bridge in Nottingham has been eventful thus far. After the visitors put on 306 runs on the first day, the fast bowlers nipped out the rest of the batting lineup to shot India out for 329 runs. Thereafter, Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings put on a half-century partnership to get their team off to a decent beginning.
However, Ishant Sharma dismissed Cook and it marked the start of England’s collapse. From 54/0 in 12 overs, Joe Root and Co were reduced to 128/9 in 32.5 overs. Jennings followed suit as Jasprit Bumrah picked up his first wicket. Ollie Pope and the English captain looked determined, but Sharma removed the former and picked up his second wicket.
Vaughan disappointed by England’s batting
Hardik Pandya was introduced in the 25th over and the decision paid dividends as he accounted for the wicket of Root. A procession of wickets followed as Pandya kept on adding to his wickets column. Prior to the match, he was slapped with criticisms and he answered them appropriately by notching his maiden five-wicket-haul in the longest format of the sport.
The 24-year all-round cricketer finished with figures of 6-1-28-5. Jos Buttler played a breezy knock of 39 runs from 32 balls to lift the Three Lions to 161 runs. In the meantime, Michael Vaughan, the former English batsman, showed his concerns after the Poms capitulated like a pack of cards. He was curious to see his team bat after India put a substantial total on the board.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “I was looking forward to seeing England Bat today under the pressure of a bit of scoreboard pressure…. They haven’t handled it well for a long while and showed us today it’s still a huge concern …. #ENDvIND”
