There’s absolutely no stopping Jofra Archer in international cricket. England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) decision to fast-track him into the national team hasn’t backfired by any stretch of the imagination. The Barbados-born has turned out to be a captain’s go-to-bowler in crunch moments. Such has been his ferocity that he was entrusted to bowl the famous Super Over in the World Cup final.
He didn’t flatter to deceive and gave the Three Lions their maiden title. After his sterling show in the mega event, he was drafted into the Test squad for the Ashes versus Australia. He didn’t get a chance to play the first match at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. However, James Anderson pulled a calf-muscle and was ruled out of the Lord’s Test. It gave Archer to make his debut in Test cricket.
Jofra Archer spewing venom
In his very first game in the format, he turned out to be a nightmare for the batsmen. Even Steve Smith, the Player of the Match in the opening Test, couldn’t survive the heat. Archer smacked him around the neck and he was then ruled out of the very game. Smith developed a concussion that made him miss the Headingley Test as well. Archer went on to pick up five wickets in the encounter.
Prior to the contest at the Home of Cricket, Archer said that he wanted to get into the Lord’s Honours Board, such was his level of confidence. The Barbados-born fast bowler is currently busy unfolding mayhem in the match in Leeds. In the first innings, he picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket. The speedster ended with stupendous figures of 17.1-3-45-6.
He nipped out Marcus Harris to strike first blood and dismissed Pat Cummins to get the fifer. He has bowled bumpers with sheer ease and isn’t expected to make things any easier for batsmen in the future. The stupendous display of bowling has left Michael Vaughan, the former English cricketer absolutely awestruck. Vaughan now reckons that Archer will end up with at least 400 Test wickets.
The former English cricketer took to Twitter and write, “What a bowler … Can’t see how @JofraArcher doesn’t get 400 Test Wickets at least … !! #Ashes
